How to select ferro silicon raw materials?

Ferro silicon is a common additive in the steel smelting process. It has a good deoxidizing effect in the steel smelting process. This is because the ferro silicon reacts with oxygen in the molten steel to form silica, which floats on the surface of the molten steel to achieve good deoxidation effect. The choice of ferro silicon raw materials also has a great influence on the quality of ferro silicon.
The main purpose of ferro silicon is to be used as deoxidizer and alloy material for steelmaking. Phosphorus and sulfur are impurities that have a great impact on the quality of steel. Ferro silicon will easily pulverize when the ferro silicon contains more phosphorus. Therefore, the phosphorus and sulfur content is required to be very low. Phosphorus exists in the state of phosphorus pentoxide in silica, and most of the phosphorus pentoxide is reduced by carbon into ferro silicon during smelting. Therefore, it is required that the phosphorus pentoxide in silica is not more than 0.02%.
The content of calcium oxide and magnesium oxide in silica is relatively high, which will increase the amount of slag during smelting and corrode the tap hole. For this reason, the total content of calcium oxide and magnesium oxide in silica is required to be less than 1%.
The selection principle of ferro silicon raw material is that it contains less impurities. If the content of impurities is too high, it is easy to cause excessive infiltration of impurities into molten steel in practical applications, thereby affecting the quality of steel.
